A piece to evoke ‘wonder’ in the mind
This piece was done to hopefully make individuals feel a sense of wonder in their lives, and I figured there was no better way than to show how small we are compared to everything else there is to see. It is made to be seen in the Nikko Yuko Gardens dome theatre, which makes this a whole different experience that is a must-see.
Every planet here in this video was created to size and rotation in comparison to Earth from what we know about them, which was time-consuming but worth every second at the end of the day.
The project was achieved solely in Adobe After Effects with the help of some realistic maps of each planet that I was able to turn into spheres using the tool ‘CC Sphere’. Here, I was able to control all the settings within the effect super easily. I wanted to add a little bit of flair by adding the effect of us zooming out of Nikko Yuko to the space setting, which turned out well and added a lot to the video. This was done by using Google Earth, which helped make this process a lot easier for me. Overall, I am very happy with this project and glad it is out there for you all to see.
Project Details
For this project, students were tasked with creating a 1-minute immersive visual piece intended for projection within the dome at Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens. Successful work invokes a single sense or sensation, creating a visceral experience for viewers.
