In this project, students were tasked to create a visual effects sequence that transitions from a believable beginning to an increasingly unbelievable narrative/progression. Starting with a shot rooted in reality, each subsequent shot will escalate in creativity and challenge.

Through an extensive amount of planning and technical creation through various concepts and ideas, I sought to compile most of the things I’d learned from previous classes and convey them through this project. Whether it was through the framing theory of cinematography, concepts of green screening and compositing, or my self-taught experience in 3D modeling, I sough to push the bounds of what I could achieve within the scope of a two minute video. The basis of my project stemmed from the simple concept of a magic doorway revealing an almost mystic setting alien to the natural world. In this case, I utilized the campus elevator as the primary mechanism and vehicle to portray my ideas as well as adhering to the assignment guidelines.

From listing the type of shots and angles for the elevator and green screen room scenes to designing each 3D rendered environment/object, this project was a personal highlight for me. I gained a greater understanding of concepts I’ve learned these past few years while learning new skills as I enjoyed myself in applying my interests in a New Media project that perfectly aligned with my aspirations.
