My project “Roll” shows the two different sides (with a hidden third side) to the word roll; Rock & Roll and a rolling sushi roll.
Physical piece:
I chose to do a t-shirt because I was inspired by the “band tees” that I used to wear in middle school and modelled it after that. The typeface “Metalista” I found did the best job at showcasing the rock and roll feel. I used a T-shirt and iron on vinyl to create my design. The original concept was made in illustrator and then put into my Cricut software and then cut by my Cricut machine.
Digital piece:
I chose to make an animated GIF because then, I was able to showcase two more meanings to the word “roll”, making the project have three different meanings instead of two. In the digital piece, I show a sushi “roll” “rolling” into screen to line up with the rest of the text to be the “o” in “roll”. I was inspired by the typeface Funkydori. I drew and animated the piece in procreate on my iPad.
