The primary focus of I never learned to speak is on how people seem to throw away their words. The original idea for this project was based on the conversations I often found myself in with friends, where others would say whatever came to the top of their minds to make others laugh. Reflecting on how these nonsensical sentences seem to dominate the conversations I’ve tried to have with friends, I ended up utilizing this assignment as a chance to visualize how I see the result of these empty words.
On a technical level, I never learned to speak prioritizes minimizing JavaScript for visuals to instead use CSS where possible. As powerful as JavaScript is with libraries, I value sending as few scripts as possible to keep data transfers to a minimum. It also helps that more people could access the webpage as a result.
